Pasta by Hand

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

I am enjoying the recent re-focus on food and how we grow, make and eat it.  I came across this nice project by Italian design student Valentina De Lorenzis, in which she explored the process of making new pasta shapes by hand and using homemade tools (top).

In a similar vein, the Italian design wonders at Arabeschi di Latte have hosted two pasta making workshops in Tokyo, and most recently, in London.  Visitors are invited to play with the design using an assortment of tools (left), ingredients and recipes (right).  The pasta is cooked on the spot for participants to enjoy.  Clearly, the Italians have a strong connection pasta, I wonder what Denver’s food would be?  Could be something to do with buffalo meat, but we also have western slope wines, Rocky Ford cantaloupes, green chiles and peaches.

Mid-Winter Woolly Repair Shop

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

If you are in the Denver area, my studio, Poesy&Praxis, is putting on our first event of the year, the Mid-Winter Woolly Repair Shop on Jan. 29th.  This drop-in community event is for all the folks who have never been able to part with that favorite holey sweater.  We will be celebrating repair by using simple wool felting techniques to patch up all the stained, torn and over-loved woolly items in our lives.

Join the fun and repair your woollies for winter part II.  The Mid-Winter Woolly Repair Shop will take place Saturday, January 29th from 1-3 PM at the Novo Coffee Roastery at 3008 Larimer St. in Denver.  Novo will be serving up delicious cups of joe all afternoon.  Cost is $2 per woolly item (all supplies will be provided).  We will also be repairing items to donate to local shelters, so if you have an item to give, please bring it.  We will patch them up!  All ages welcome.

If you’d like to join in please RSVP to me by Jan. 16th so we can order supplies.  This event is organized by Bean Again, Poesy & Praxis and Novo Coffee.

PKN Denver

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Thanks to everyone who took part in Denver’s 6th PechaKucha Night.  We had over 300 people attend the outdoor event on Tuesday.  It was a great final PKN for me, will miss the coordinating the madness with Angela, but they seem to just keep getting better.  First round of pics are up on the website, more coming soon.

MID Magazine

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Denver’s newest publication, Modern in Denver magazine, has launched their website and it looks great. Lots of good resources for the mid-century modern/contemporary design enthusiast in Denver and beyond. I select the “Field Study” product reviews each issue, so keep an eye out for the hard copy too!

Vahakn Matossian

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Vahakn Matossian is a British-Armenian designer studying at the Royal College of Art and Design. I recently came his site and love the Bear+Cart project, a mobile workshop where Vahakn creates totems for the curious passer-by based on his/her wishes and stories.

For those of you in the Denver area, that should get you inspired to work on your artifact over the long weekend for the Community Challenge: My Little Mania. Also Pecha Kucha Night Volume 4 is Tuesday at Buntport!

Pop-up Denver

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

It’s been so long since I’ve written I almost forgot my log-in info…sorry. Starting a museum has taken a lot more time than I thought, but so far Denver’s first pop-up museum has been awesome. If you live in the area come on down this Saturday from 12-5 for a live community art event, “Pop-up Denver”, as part of Denver Arts Week. Create a giant pop-up scene in the pop-up museum. I’m going to try and get back on track with designklub next week, promise, with only two fingers crossed.
